How To Make Retaining Walls Stronger
A lot of retaining walls are meant to hold back a large amount of rocks or dirt and because of that they need to be extremely strong. Whether you are making a huge retaining wall or a very small one doesn’t matter, it still needs to be as strong as possible.
But how do I make a retaining wall stronger?
There are a lot of things that you can do but the first thing you must do is create a stable footing for a retaining wall. Without a stable footing the retaining wall will most likely settle along with the ground below it and once it does the likelihood of it cracking are much higher. Do yourself a favor and if you want to ensure that the retaining wall doesn’t break or fall down anytime soon, then you need to establish a solid footing under it.
Although the footing is a must, you need to also make sure that you sloped the wall correctly. What many homeowners don’t realize is that a retaining wall needs to be slightly slanted in order to push the majority of the pressure to the base of the wall. If you don’t do this right, then the weight will be pushing on the top of the wall and this will inevitably topple it. If you have never installed a retaining wall before, then you most likely don’t know all of this stuff and that is why you should get some help for it.
What I would recommend is that you hire a contractor who specializes in retaining walls so that you don’t have to worry about the wall falling down. Just make sure that whether you install the wall yourself or have somebody else do it, that it is done correctly. Yes, this might cost more and take more time but at least you won’t have to do it all again sometime in the future.
